Issues In Sri Lanka

Dear Friends, Students and Chaplains of IMCS-AP,

As we all know in South Asia, Sri Lanka has been having an internal conflict for a long time. The Sri Lankan government and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have been at arms and are currently going through one of the most challenging times. Today, more then 300,000 civilians are trapped between this civil war in Sri Lanka. They are now homeless, shelter less, food less. Everyday many civilians are being killed as they are caught in between. Quite recently ago, hundreds of people have been killed or injured in Wanni, the northern region of the island. Even hospitals have been demolished by bombs. Civilians have been pressured by some groups to leave their lands.

The Government of Sri Lanka, whose primary function is to handle the Human Rights and democratic processes of the land in the most peaceful way, is carrying out military operations in areas with a civilian population and preventing journalist from exposing the truth. Their claims of coming close to victory are highly irresponsible as the human dignity has become a trophy in war games. The aerial and artillery bombardment has reportedly led to civilian deaths, injuries, the destruction of property and mass displacement.

Dear friends of IMCS

Greetings from Manila!

This is a program of ICMICA based in Geneva organized during the UN Human Rights Council session. It is very useful for those looking forward to become Human Rights advocates.

IMCS global family will only get one place and and IMCS AP will try its best to lobby for one student from Asia Pacific to join. In the recent past, Mr. Vipul Macwan from India(South Asia) and Ms. Ching from Hong Kong (East Asia) joined.Rotation of the sub-regions will be healthy, but lets keep all options open.

Global Christian youth call for stronger efforts towards unity

23 January 2008

Nine international Christian youth movements and organizations including WSCF called for stronger efforts in the move towards Christian unity today.

Two days before a prayer meeting of Pope Benedict XVI. and Samuel Kobia, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, they asked in a joint statement the heads of the Roman Catholic Church, the World Council of Churches, Christian World Communions and Regional Ecumenical Organizations to share the ecumenical dialogue with young people:

Calling for Reflections: full employment and decent work for all

Advocacy

Dear friends,

As it was discussed in Malaysia, it has always been important to involve the movement in the process of making statements at the United Nations.  There is an opportunity coming up to submit a written statement to the 46th Session of the Commission on Social Development regarding the theme “full employment and decent work for all.”  I would like to take the initiative to ask for you participation.
